Dr. Sara Slowbe

I’m honored and excited to serve as the new principal of Margarita Middle School!

My journey in education began in 2004 as a high school history teacher in Washington state. In 2007, I moved to Southern California and began teaching in Escondido, where I had the opportunity to take on a variety of teacher leadership roles, including Testing Coordinator, English Learner TOSA, and Literacy TOSA.

My first administrative role was as the Language and Literacy Specialist in the Escondido Union High School District. In 2020, I joined the amazing team at Erle Stanley Gardner Middle School as an assistant principal - my first time working in a middle school, and one that I loved! Most recently, I served as Assistant Principal at Great Oak High School, where I oversaw Teaching and Learning, an experience that brought me joy and challenged me in new ways.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in History (2001) and Master’s in Teaching (2003) from the University of Washington, and completed my Doctorate in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University in 2022. My dissertation focused on how principals can elevate instruction and support for Long-Term English Learners, a topic I care deeply about.

Beyond my school-based roles, I’ve also had the privilege of facilitating professional learning at both state and national conferences. I believe in empowering teachers, building strong school culture, and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed.

I’m thrilled to be joining the Margarita Middle School community and look forward to getting to know our students, families, and staff. Together, we’re going to make this an incredible year!
