Margarita celebrates Black History Month

In the United States, the month of February is observed as Black History Month or National African American History Month, and we use the month to remember the important contributions and achievements of African Americans throughout our nation’s history.  The celebration can be felt nationally and worldwide as many organizations, cities, states and countries host events that educate on the rich culture, and memorable figures of African American history.

Did you know that Barack Obama became the first African-American president in U.S. history. He occupied the White House for two consecutive terms, serving from 2009 to 2017.

Obama's advocacy work led him to run for a seat in the Illinois State Senate. He ran as a Democrat and won election in 1996. During his years as a state senator, Obama worked with both Democrats and Republicans to draft legislation on ethics, as well as expand health care services and early childhood education programs for the poor. He also created a state earned-income tax credit for the working poor. As chairman of the Illinois Senate's Health and Human Services Committee Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases after a number of death-row inmates were found to be innocent.

MMS Student of the Month - November & December

Box Tops & PB and J Club

Did you know students can earn coupons for the Student Store for their donations of box tops and PB & J?

Help our PTSA make and serve almost 475 PB & J sandwiches for our students every other Tuesday.  Use the collection box for these donations in our main office.

Our PTSA student store is looking for volunteers to work a few days a month from 11:15-1:15.  Make a difference at our school by serving smiles and refreshments in our student store.  Free training is available; contact our office or PTSA to help out.
